Choosing the Right Dolphin Robotic Cleaner
-
Target Waterline or Wall Cleaning
Check whether the cleaner provides basic wall climbing or dedicated waterline cleaning. Standard wall-climbing units clean vertical walls but may not reach the surface tile line. If your pool accumulates debris or scum rings at the top water surface, select a model with dedicated waterline scrubbing. The Dolphin Premier specifically targets this surface line along with standard floor and wall paths. Evaluate your pool basin surfaces to decide if waterline action is necessary.
-
Select Corded or Cordless Power
Examine the power source before buying. Most in-ground cleaners use a standard power cable connected to an external power supply. A cordless model runs on an internal battery, removing cable management entirely around your patio or deck. For example, the Dolphin Liberty 200 provides 90 minutes of cordless cleaning with magnetic charging. Choose cordless if you lack nearby exterior outlets. Choose corded if you prefer continuous electrical power without waiting between recharging cycles.
-
Evaluate Wi-Fi Connectivity Options
Look at the control method to determine how you operate the cleaner. Certain models include built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to create automated cleaning schedules directly from a smartphone application. Non-connected cleaners rely on standard physical controls on the power supply box. If you want remote control and scheduling options, consider a connected option like the Dolphin Nautilus CC Pro. If you want direct plug-and-play operation without network configuration, choose a model without Wi-Fi.
-
Consider Physical Machine Weight
You must manually pull the cleaner out of the water after every session. Check the published dry weight before making a decision. Units vary significantly in mass, ranging from compact builds around 15 pounds up to heavy models. The Dolphin Proteus DX3 weighs 14.8 pounds, which makes retrieving and carrying it around the pool deck straightforward. Heavier units can exceed 40 pounds, demanding substantially more physical effort once water adds to the overall lifting resistance.
-
Review Filter Type and Access
Check how the cleaner collects debris and how you service it. Top-loading filter baskets lift straight out from the top panel, allowing fast rinsing without flipping the machine over. Also verify whether the model includes ultra-fine filtration panels for silt, sand, and tiny particles, or standard filtration for larger leaves. The Dolphin Nautilus CC with Ultra-Fine Filters provides specialized fine-particle capture. Match the filtration design to the specific debris types found in your backyard.
