Build and Weight
The Betta SE Plus is a robust unit weighing 15 pounds, with dimensions of 22 inches in length, 18.5 inches in width, and 8 inches in height. It features a gray finish and a UV-resistant coating. In contrast, the Betta Flex is significantly lighter at 8.3 pounds. Its compact design measures 19.5 inches long, 16 inches wide, and 8.5 inches high. The Flex comes in blue or gray. The SE Plus offers a more substantial build, while the Flex prioritizes a lightweight, portable form factor that is easier to handle during maintenance.
Control Method
Control options differ notably between the two models. The Betta SE Plus includes a wireless remote control, allowing you to adjust modes and settings from a distance. This provides precise management of the cleaning cycle. The Betta Flex data does not list a remote control. It relies on automatic operation with selectable Eco or Normal modes. If you prefer manual intervention or specific adjustments via a handheld device, the SE Plus offers that capability. The Flex is designed for a set-it-and-forget-it approach without remote inputs.
Navigation and Sensors
The Betta SE Plus is equipped with ultrasonic radar for obstacle detection. This technology helps the unit navigate around pool stairs and other barriers, thanks to its shallow water safeguard design. This feature prevents it from getting stuck. The Betta Flex description highlights a soft-touch casing that is gentle on pool sides but does not explicitly mention ultrasonic sensors or radar. The SE Plus offers advanced navigation for complex pool shapes, while the Flex focuses on surface gliding with protective casing for all pool types.
Charging and Runtime
Both units are solar-powered, but their charging profiles vary. The Betta SE Plus can recharge in 3.5 hours using a backup adapter or 5-6 hours under direct sunlight. It offers over 30 hours of continuous operation. The Betta Flex charges in 5-6 hours of direct sunlight and is described as cordless with no plugs needed. It offers Eco Mode for periodic sweeps or Normal Mode for 24/7 performance. The SE Plus provides faster charging via adapter and a specified long runtime, giving it an edge in flexibility.
Basket and Maintenance
Debris handling differs in design. The Betta SE Plus uses a large fine-mesh debris basket with a 200 um filter, effective for leaves, dust, pollen, and pet hair. It does not mention a specific handle design. The Betta Flex features a spacious basket with a convenient top handle for quick, no-mess emptying. This handle allows for easy lifting without flipping or disassembly. While the SE Plus has a finer mesh specification, the Flex offers a more user-friendly emptying mechanism with its integrated handle design.
Which Betta Solar Skimmer Fits You
Users needing remote control and obstacle avoidance
The Betta SE Plus includes a wireless remote control and ultrasonic radar for obstacle detection. This allows you to adjust modes easily and navigate around pool features without getting stuck. Its twin Salt Chlorine Tolerant motors and 200 um fine-mesh basket efficiently remove small debris like pollen and dust from the surface, ensuring consistent cleaning performance.
Those wanting a lightweight, fully cordless unit
The Betta Flex is significantly lighter at 8.3 pounds compared to the SE Plus. It is fully cordless, requiring no plugs or charging cables, just direct sunlight. Its compact dimensions and soft-touch casing make it gentle on pool sides. It features a spacious basket with an easy-lift handle for quick, no-mess emptying, ideal for simple maintenance.
Owners of infinity edge or specialized pools
The Betta Flex is explicitly compatible with infinity edge pools, in-ground, and above-ground types. Its design accommodates various pool edges without risk. The SE Plus mentions a shallow water safeguard for stairs but does not list infinity edge compatibility. If your pool has unique edges, the Flex offers broader compatibility assurance based on its published specifications.
Users prioritizing long runtime and backup power
The Betta SE Plus offers over 30 hours of continuous operation and includes a backup adapter for charging in 3.5 hours. This ensures reliability even in cloudy conditions. The Flex relies solely on solar energy for 5-6 hours of charge time.
